Snow? AGAIN?

The clouds opened up about 9:30 am and it started snowing...
AND snowing...
AND SNOWING!
I noticed the snow starting to fall while I was at work. At about lunch time we were told to head on home before the weather got too bad. Schools all around the area let the children go early so that everyone could get home safely. So here is my K-Man watching the snow...don't worry he will get to play in it a bit later. The forecast is 3-4 inches of snow- We are at about 1 inch (or so) and it continues to fall! What ever happened to snowing in December -February! I mean, Spring is in a couple of weeks!

***** Update- 2:45pm We played in the now 2-3 inch snow!!!****

For those who do not live in Texas...this is a huge deal! ...go ahead and laugh at us crazy folks running around in the COLD weather!!

Notice the K-Man's Camo rain boots!

We understand the snow is only going to continue through the evening hours. We are under a winter advisory until 6am tomorrow! WOOHOO!
Have fun out there K-Man. Your Momma didn't see snow until she was in college!
Say Cheese!..I mean, SNOW!

Burrrr!!! It is a bit chilly! I think ham and hashbrown soup will be just perfect for tonight!

"Savannah through the FEET of ME!"

Any time you see these flamingo feet at the beginning of a post, you will know that I am sharing another "Savannah through the Feet of ME!" My feet had a blast walking, waiting, strolling, and sometimes running through the streets of Savannah, Georgia. As I share, "Savannah through the Feet of Me!" I will try to include a bit of history or neat facts that I learned along the way.

If you stroll down the sidewalk at Jones Street and Whitaker Street you will find my FAVORITE Savannah experience by far...
The Wilkes House! In 1943 The Wilkes House was a boardinghouse run by Sema Wilkes. Her goal was to provide a modest living offering southern homestyle cooking served in a family style. Though boardinghouses were on the decline, Mrs. Wilkes continued to thrive as a boardinghouse-style restaurant. In the 1970's lines had started forming out front before mealtime.

AND the lines continue to form outside along the sidewalk waiting for a meal that it served Monday-Friday from only 11am-2pm. Here the four of us wait patiently in line for an hour.

Here is the line that forms daily waiting for the food and the atmosphere that many people and stars have also indulged in...including Kevin Spacey and Charlize Theron (I bet they didn't have to wait in line!)

As my feet entered the small house the smells were overwhelming. I was thrilled (along with my stomach) to actually be inside.

As you walked in there are a total of 7 tables (in two rooms) that seat 10 people. The table is already set with 13 bowls of vegetables and three serving dishes of meats. Oh...and SWEET TEA! Here are some of the people we had lunch with. They were from New York City and Michigan. A blessing is said for the food that will be served that day at the first meal (at 11am). This blessing was often said by the late Mrs. Wilkes.

It was overwhelming with all the food on the table. I went out of my way to try it all as my plate shows! There were butterbeans, sweet creamed corn, stewed okra and tomatoes, collard greens, mashed sweet potatoes with raisins, rutabagas, squash, black-eyed peas ...fried chicken, barbecue pork, stew...Baskets full of the flakiest cornbread I have ever eaten--Yummy!

HOWEVER...As you can see I had NO problem cleaning my plate!

After you have cleaned your plate and eaten as much as you can you are asked to carry your plate to the kitchen were the kitchen staff says thank you and continues with their daily tasks. The atmosphere is amazing and nothing I can put into words! It is so personal in a world that often praises the impersonal.

Walking around in pink boas and taking pictures of our feet we often brought attention to ourselves. We were honored to meet Marcia, Mrs. Wilkes grandaughter. The Wilkes House continues though four generations of Wilkes. As we left Marica expressed that her grandmother would have loved to have met us.

I could not leave without giving into my obsession with cookbooks! I love the cookbook and I am looking forward to making Mrs. Wilkes sweet potatoes!

This is "Savannah through the Feet of Me!"

Do you know of any restaurants that are "the best known secret"? or Restaurants only the locals know about?

Still Winter Here!

The last couple of weeks have been beautiful! Sunshine with 70ish degree weather. We just knew that Spring was in the air. We had started to plan what we needed to do next to get the veggie garden planted AND SUPRISE...

we got SNOW tonight! (AND the high was only about 35 degrees!) WHAT in the WORLD!?! I guess I really shouldn't be too surprised, we DID have snow on Easter (in April) last year! I guess it isn't Spring until the snow stops falling!

The K-Man was running around outside like a mad man (what else is new?-Ha!) We had to explain more than once that just because it is snowing doesn't mean Santa is coming tonight!

It was COLD out there! I stayed on the porch while my adorable husband got out there to pose with the boys for a picture! What a Man!

My adorable husband held Little Bit as long as he possibly could- The little guy wanted down to play like his big brother - trying to eat and catch the flurries!

Here are the boys looking outside at the beautiful snow thinking that their parents are so mean making them come in for baths! Bummer~

Little Bit put up a battle trying to get us to let him go back outside- Poor guy! It's just too cold out there little man!

Is it still snowing in your neck of the woods?
Do you know what snow looks like?

The Girl of Good Intentions!

Yes, that's me...The Girl of Good Intentions! I have been overwhelmed lately by the "what I want to dos"- Here are a few:

I want to:
1. Cook and have good healthy meals for my family daily
2. Read for enjoyment
3. Come up with a plan to organize my notes taken during class at church
4. Study...not just read the Bible
5. Work on something crafty at least once a week
6. Read up on the History of Savannah (for the trip next week!)
7. Work out (somehow...somewhere!)
8. Spend time with my adorable hubby
9. Spend time with the boys- not just yelling at them-Ha!
10. Nurture friendships

Seriously, the list could go on and on!! I just feel overwhelmed by emotions and desires that I am a bit paralyzed. I know I need to take small steps to get these things accomplished or started. I have been thinking of some of my sweet friends that are "girls of action"...Sometimes I feel consumed by the needs and wants of those around me that when it comes to my needs or wants I am too tired or too overwhelmed to focus and be a "girl of action". I am hoping typing this well spur me on to action!

Do you ever feel paralyzed by all the wants you want to do? What spurs you to action?

Middle Ground

I just got back from watching "Fools Gold" with some girlfriends of mine. The one overwhelming feeling when the movie was over was what a dull life I live. Now, just hear me out! I totally know that I am blessed...blessed so much it's ridiculous. However, I sit back and wonder if there is a part of me that is screaming for adventure. For something outside of the ordinary...

One of my all time favorite reads and movie is "The Magic of Ordinary Days". It's about a young woman who had dreams of becoming a archeologist and traveling the world, but a turn of events leads her to a small farm leading a "small" life. Over the course of time she finds the magic of her ordinary days and understands that there is adventure and love in everyday life.

So, as I drove home thinking (as I often do too much of)contemplating the adventure and romance of "Fools Gold" and the discovery and peace of "The Magic of Ordinary Days", I came to a conclusion that there just has to be a middle ground. A place where you grant yourself the adventures of a life time while understanding the thrill of the everyday. I want to find that ground.

On another thought...I watched "Sleepless in Seattle" the other night (a V2alentine gift from the Guys in my life). While watching the special features one of the producers stated that movies allow YOU to "fall in love" again along with the characters. You get the chance to have those emotions fresh like the first time YOU first fell in love... I guess that's one of the wonderful things about movies and books. YOU get to have those special emotions and adventures over and over again. Tonight, I was able to go on an exciting treasure hunt and find what "I" have spent "my" life risking everything for AND not even get wet once!

Any thoughts?
