A Morning in the Teacher's Workroom

I went up to the school this morning to help out K-man's teacher...after spending 2 hours in the teacher's workroom, with other mothers, I have concluded that I am not fit for a child (let alone 2 boys) in the sporting arena! I have found out that "anyone who is anyone" and "any child who does not want to be left behind" is participating in sports AT LEAST 3 days a week and all day on Saturday!!! These "school sports" start at 7 years old (1st grade). These mothers are all about sports-what child is doing what and who did what and how many sports this or that. Sigh*

My neighbor has warned me...her 7 year old boy practices peewee football 3 nights a week (6-8pm), games are on Saturday, and the coach opens his home after church on Sunday to review film!!!!!! You read it right, 7 YEARS OLD! My neighbor was so upset, but she felt the pressure because "all the other boys were doing it!"

Well, this little town better watch out! I have many concerns about this world we have to live in and I know were my time and heart cry out to be, with my Father! I know there is a balance that must be reached by each family- God, Family, Friends, School, Sports...etc. BUT, this world is tough~You hurt a bit when you have to tell your child no, or when you ask them to look different or act different in a world that focuses on so many "other" things and desires.

I am totally for sports and after school activities (both me and my adorable husband were very competitive in sports growing up). AND I know my boys will be active in activities that will only better them and make them well-rounded...BUT, I was blessed by God with these two adorable boys who also need to know how to share God's word, know who God is and how much He loves them, and what our purpose in this world is...time MUST be spent on these things before all else!

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and it's desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."
1 John 2:15-17

I have time to spend in prayer over this "balance" that will be needed for our family. I can tell you now that I will fight for the balance to lean significantly toward GOD (and not three nights a week practice for a 7 YEAR OLD!) Seriously, where is the focus on the family! (ohhhhh, that's another post!)

What are you doing or have done to keep God and family first? We totally need to support each other in this!

when you figure it out, girlfriend, you let me know. I feel your pain!

God is first in our lives but there are days when we have to eat PB&J for supper or Reid is going to church in his cleates and baseball clothes. Today is one of those crazy days and I just want to get my kids from school, bring them home, unhook the phone and lock the door. I miss the days when they were young and we could do nothing.

Hang in there..and welcome the world of teacher workrooms..hahaha!

Preach on sister! Prayers for you (and the rest of us) trying to figure out that balance and maintain our focus on things above... BIG HUGS!

I can't believe the pressure starts so young--7 (or earlier?!?!) for sports/activities that take up sooooo much time. We haven't gotten into any of that--yet--but I'm sure it's hard to balance everything.

Good luck!!
